So now let’s see how to import your existing contacts. It’s very useful when you already have different information pieces about your clients in other systems or internal databases.

For example, thanks to an email address, which is the top identifier for a user, you’ll be able to match your website visitors with the details you may already have from the other sources, like their phone number or birthday, and thus be able to customize and personalize content and communication!

Let’s get it started then! Go to Settings -> Importers. We’re going to import users from a .csv file but if you want to import data from your Pipedrive or Intercom accounts, you can do it easily here.

So let’s go back to “import users”. You will need a ready .csv file with the contacts you want to import. To make the process smooth and easy, you can have a look at our predefined csv and excel import templates and format your file likewise.

I set up the data I want to import in excel and save as a .csv file.

Once you have the .csv ready, all we need to do is to drag and drop it here or, if you prefer (and that’s what I’m going to do), you can click and select your file directly from its location.

When you import users it may happen that a given record already exists in the user.com database so good practice is to always add a tag.

For example I’m gonna add the date and “Import of contacts”. It’s useful just to keep your user data clear and to easily know when and in which import batch a given record has been added.

You can also add imported users to an existing users list or create a new one here. But we don’t have any yet so I’ll leave it for now.

Then let’s go to encoding, the standard is UTF8 so let’s select that one, and the last thing to take care of here is a seperator.

If your names are separated by a comma, let’s pick a comma; if it’s a semicolon, go for semicolon… and so on.

We click import, which brings us to here. This attribute has been matched with the system one automatically but some have been not.

Like we see for example in the Header column (which are attribute names from our csv) a “Given name”.

We can find a matching attribute in the second drop-down menu with system attributes, which in that case is “first name”.

Let’s go through the list and choose the match manually. I’m matching first and last names, email, phone number…

I don’t actually need “state” so I’m gonna skip that one. And then - “Country”.

Now we have a list of all attributes connected to each other.

Click Import, it may take a few seconds, and as you can see here in Importers a total of 186 contacts have been successfully uploaded.

From import results you will know how many contacts have been imported successfully and which may have not been imported.

It may unfortunately happen there are some issues with importing particular contacts but we will focus on that in another video.

Let’s now quickly go to homepage, filter the users out thanks to our tag added which we can do manually in “filters”, but the easiest way is to go to “data” and “Tags”.

And we can see now all those new users here. And that’s how to quickly import your contacts!

Thanks for listening.
